As a spicy foods fanatic, I recently jumped at the chance to try the Carolina Reaper, dubbed the world's hottest pepper. The pepper, which averaged a rating of 1.474 million on the Scoville Scale (a jalapeño pepper has a Scoville Rating of 3,000 to 7,000), left my nose running, eyes watering and taste buds completely useless for a couple days.
While I admit I may have overdone it trying that pepper, it got me thinking about how I could spice up my Super Bowl Sunday spread. I already plan on having Cheetos Crunchy Flamin' Hot snacks, my favorite spicy Frito-Lay snack, as well as Tostitos Original tortilla chips and Tostitos All Natural Chunky Salsa - Hot, but below are a few great gameday recipes from Frito-Lay with suggestions on how you can spice up your snacking.
- Super Quick Guacamole Dip - Guacamole is a great dish to spice up to any level. A minced Anaheim pepper adds a little zip while a serrano pepper will leave you looking for a refreshing drink.
- Garden Onion Burger - Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce can add smokiness and heat to your burger. Try mincing a couple to mix into the meat before grilling for a kick in every bite.
- Red Hot Smokers Ribs - A staple of most BBQ recipes is a great dry rub. I like to give my rub a spicy upgrade by grinding a few dried New Mexico red chiles to add to the sweet brown sugar and smoky cumin.
