I have a riddle for you: What's sweet and savory, hot and cold, sometimes over-the-top and also sometimes humble? The answer: Pie!
Today is National Pie Day, and here at Frito-Lay we're celebrating by taking a look back at some of our favorite moments with our favorite pie -- Fritos Chili Pie. Fritos Chili Pie made its debut in 1932, soon after Elmer Doolin and his family started the Frito Company, selling Fritos Corn Chips. To help market the corn chips, Doolin's mother, Daisy Dean Doolin, topped them with beef chili, cheese and onions, and the classic Fritos Chili Pie recipe was born. Last year we marked the 80th anniversary of Fritos corn chips by setting the Guinness World Record for the World's Largest Fritos Chili Pie at the State Fair of Texas. It weighed in at more than 1,300 pounds!
