Last week, I had the pleasure of spending time with some important members of the Frito-Lay family as we recognized 100 of our "Million Milers." Million Milers are a special group of our over-the-road (OTR) drivers in the U.S. and Canada who have reached the career milestone of driving more than one million, two million or three million miles accident-free.
As someone who isn't the most skilled behind the wheel, I took some time with the drivers to get their tips for safe driving. Staying alert, getting enough rest and constantly being aware of their surroundings and other drivers on the road were the three most common tips I heard. Many of the drivers were also quick to note how the regular training they received from Frito-Lay also played an important role in their impressive driving records.
On average, it takes about 12 years for a driver to reach the million-mile mark. This year, 22 drivers achieved two million miles and two drivers achieved more than three million accident-free miles. Through the Million Milers program and the company’s extensive safety efforts, Frito-Lay has seen a 71% decline in total collisions since 2002.
