When I started at Frito-Lay I was familiar with some of the steps we had taken to help the environment, but over the past several months I have gained an even better understanding of how much we do to conserve energy, save water, minimize waste and reduce emissions. It's exciting to learn about our many sustainability efforts, and even more exciting to be able to share one of our most recent accolades with our fans!
The city of Plano, Texas, recently recognized Frito-Lay's headquarters building in Plano with the 2011 Environmental Commitment Award. This award -- the city's highest environmental honor -- celebrates continued year-over-year improvements toward sustainability. 2011 is actually the second consecutive year our dedicated "green" team has earned this award.
Our most recent efforts included a building-wide printer sustainability project to reduce the amount of printer devices by 90 percent. This project required commitment from all of our employees and led to significant cost savings, a more than 50 percent reduction in paper usage and a carbon footprint reduction of more than 22,500 tons annually.
We’ll have more news about what we’re doing to help the environment in another post this week, but I couldn’t wait to share this one with all of you!
