With the beginning of the new year, it's back to reality and back to my spin class. I already miss my family, especially my grandsons, who I spent time with over the holidays. It seems like our five grandsons are growing up even faster than our four children did. My wife, Janis, and I really cherish the moments we spend with them, because we appreciate how fleeting those moments are. Luckily, I have my Snack Chat blogging to keep me busy and keep me from getting too sentimental. (A picture of Janis and me with our grandsons is at right.)
At Frito-Lay, we’re kicking off the year with fun new products, starting with Doritos. This week, the brand brings back for a limited time an old favorite -- Doritos Fiery Habanero. We introduced the flavor in 2005, and it was available in stores until late 2008.
Doritos Fiery Habanero is the Doritos flavor consumers most frequently ask us to bring back. You can find the spicy snack in supermarkets (large bags) and in convenience stores (small bags) through mid-February.
Doritos Fiery Habanero falls into a category of Frito-Lay snack flavors with a consumer following that, while solid, is not quite large enough to justify keeping the products in stores permanently. Bringing back these flavors from time to time is something our consumers seem to love -– though it can lead to some unusual behavior. I remember being at Houston restaurant while on a business trip years ago. When the waitress learned that those of us at my table worked for Frito-Lay, she told us she was stocking up on a limited-time Doritos flavor that was in market at the time, and was storing the bags in her freezer!
To spread the word about Doritos Fiery Habanero, our marketers will feature it on the Crash the Super Bowl Web site. The site now also features the six finalist Doritos ads, created by consumers, that you can vote on as part of the Crash the Super Bowl contest. One of my favorites is an ad in which an older guy (like me) “one-ups” a younger guy for some Doritos. (You may have to suspend reality to appreciate it!)
By voting for your favorite consumer-created ad, you’ll help determine which top three ads will run during the Super Bowl and compete for a possible combined $5 million in prize money. More importantly, when you vote online you are entered for a chance to win a pair of Super Bowl tickets. So, go vote!
Over the next few weeks, I'll blog about more exciting product news from Frito-Lay, so stay tuned. For now, tell me what you think of Doritos Fiery Habanero. (Click here to find stores near you that carry this flavor!)
Okay...so the "Burn" flavors FINALLY came out in the large bags...for what, a couple of weeks? What the heck?? We LOVE 3rd Degree Burn doritos...absolutely love them. We bought 3 of the large bags as soon as the we saw them on the shelves...and now they are nowhere to be found. Why?? Why do you guys do this?????
