Today on Snack Chat, Chris Kuechenmeister, Director of Public Relations at Frito-Lay, shares exciting news about the activities the Tostitos brand is bringing to life to celebrate the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl this year.
December is always a great time for news in the world of sports, and this year, with headlines coming out about Notre Dame, Tiger Woods and this weekend’s Florida-Alabama match-up, the whirlwind streak is sure to continue.
So in the spirit of making sports news, Tostitos made its own college football announcement today in New York: In a partnership with the USO, Tostitos will field the first-ever Tostitos Salute the Troops Bowl. This one-of-a-kind college football experience will bring the tastes and traditions of college football bowl games to the military serving in the Persian Gulf.
This Sunday, Dec. 6, will be an important news day for all college football fans too, when the BCS announces the teams that will go head-to-head in the various bowl games this season. We at Frito-Lay love the “bowl season” -- especially our Tostitos brand, which in 2010, celebrates its 15th year as title sponsor of the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
Bowl games are thrilling for both fans and players across the country and bring a level of pageantry, drama and excitement that is tough to match. But, while the fandom and fanfare are in full swing here at home, there is an important group of college football fans that doesn’t get to enjoy the experience in quite the same fashion -- our military heroes stationed overseas, serving our country in the noblest of ways.
The Tostitos Salute the Troops Bowl will feature an all-star flag football competition in the Persian Gulf that puts teams of college football legends and military service heroes in a unique gridiron match-up designed to celebrate the armed forces and provide a taste of home.
You know we’re serious about the event -- and about supporting our troops -- when legendary coaches Barry Switzer (University of Oklahoma, Dallas Cowboys) and Tommy Bowden (Tulane University, Clemson University) will be on tap to lead the flag football teams that include former college stars Rocket Ismail (NCAA National Championship in 1988), Tommie Frazier (back-to-back NCAA National Championships in 1994 and 1995) and Tony Casillas (NCAA National Championship in 1985), among others.
Highlights from the event will be shared in the U.S. at halftime during the nationwide broadcast of the 2010 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on FOX on Jan. 4.
Here’s to a great college football bowl season and a memorable experience for our military heroes overseas!
Being a retired U.S. Navy veteran. I understand the importance of showing our troops that we care and we recognize thier sacrifice they are doing for us. I know a lot of a people don't agree with war! But are motto was that and I have heard numerious people say! Americans, Will always fight for their freedom! I stand by that motto. So place politics aside and show are troops and their families that we care and appreciate everything they do! God speed... Thanks,
