For Frito-Lay, Halloween is an important snacking holiday, but personally, Halloween is my least favorite holiday. In fact, my wife, Janis, who loves Halloween, says that if there was a Scrooge for Halloween -- I'm it. I never really liked taking our children trick-or-treating, don't care for people coming to my door asking for candy and really didn't like my kids running around the house after stuffing themselves with candy. OK, I will admit that I like to dress up as Dracula for Halloween parties. (Here's a picture of Janis and me on Halloween a few years ago.)
Apparently though, I'm in the minority. According to the Halloween Advertising Agency, 82 percent of Americans purchase Halloween candy, costumes and snacks; nearly 25 percent of adults attend Halloween parties; and Halloween ranks No. 2 in holiday-related consumer spending (Christmas is No.1). This year, Halloween will be an even bigger deal, since falls on a Saturday, which means more parties.
Halloween is a big event for Frito-Lay because people stock up on our snacks for parties, and this year we have a few fun flavor surprises to bring to the table. In stores now, you’ll see our "Wicked Good Fun" displays, which feature two limited-time Doritos flavors that are “back from beyond” –- popular flavors from the past that are available in stores throughout October -- Smokin' Cheddar BBQ and Black Pepper Jack, as well as a new limited-time product, Giant Cheetos Color Changers. Yes, the Giant Cheetos actually change color as you eat them! And, of course, our popular Multipacks are also part of the Halloween displays, since the individual-sized bags are perfect for handing out to trick-or-treaters.
This year, I’m actually looking forward to Halloween, because Janis and I will be spending it in Phoenix with our three grandsons. While I’m there, I'll put on my game face, dress up as Dracula and try to enjoy the holiday. In addition to the candy we’ll be eating, I’m sure there will be plenty of Frito-Lay snacks to enjoy as well. What's your favorite party holiday?
