Earlier this year, I listened to Terry Gross interview Donovan Campbell, Frito-Lay Zone Sales Leader and former Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps (pictured left), on NPR’s Fresh Air radio program. During the interview, Donovan discussed his new book, a memoir titled Joker One, which was also the name of the 40-man platoon he led while stationed in Ramadi, Iraq. The book has received excellent reviews as an “outstanding narrative” that shares Donovan’s and his platoon’s story of protecting the innocent, battling the insurgents and picking up the pieces of the war-torn country.
The last few minutes of the Fresh Air interview grabbed my attention, as Donovan, now back in civilian life and leading a team at Frito-Lay, began to discuss his views on servant leadership – a topic I’ve blogged about a few times this year and a commitment that Al Carey, Frito-Lay’s CEO, has made for the organization’s work culture.
So, I thought I’d pick up where NPR left off and talk more to Donovan about servant leadership -- sharing with you his experiences and thoughts on leadership in the Marines and at Frito-Lay. Listen to Dave Philips_Interview_Donovan Campbell.
