Every chef knows that certain foods taste better when paired together. One of my favorite food pairings is meat loaf and mashed potatoes. And, I remember my Scottish grandfather loved eating apple pie with cheese. At dinner he would say, "Apple pie without cheese is like a hug without a squeeze."
Frito-Lay’s food scientists also know that pairing different seasonings can create some unique flavors that people love -- like Cheddar and Sour Cream on Lay's potato chips and Peppercorn Ranch on SunChips. You can find their latest innovation in flavor pairing in the new Peanut Butter Apple flavored SmartFood, in stores now.
"We asked women about the food pairings they prefer,” Burke Raine, Associate Marketing Manager for SmartFood, told me. "We discovered one of their favorite snacks is apples and peanut butter. It’s a great taste combination because you get both a sweet and savory taste in the same bite."
The new flavor combines peanut butter-glazed popcorn clusters with real dried apple pieces, in a shareable bag.
The SmartFood Popcorn Clusters line provides women with the attributes they’re looking for in a snack: It tastes great, contains 5 grams of fiber per serving, is an excellent source of calcium, and it contains no artificial ingredients. Shape Magazine named SmartFood Popcorn Clusters in its “Best Snacks Awards 2009,” and bloggers are giving it favorable reviews.
I think the new Peanut Butter Apple flavor is an excellent addition to the SmartFood line. Who knows, someday I might sit at the dinner table and say to my grandchildren, "An apple without peanut butter is like a ship without a rudder." OK, so maybe my grandfather was a lot more clever. What are you favorite snack food pairings?
Sharable bag? I don't think so. MINE ALL MINE. Children, stay back this is mommy's.

Just tried the Peanut Butter Apple Popcorn Clusters and love them! I am just wishing I could taste a little more peanut butter and it would be perfect! Looking forward to more classic pairings!
