Earlier this month, the MS150, a two-day, 150-mile bike ride that raises money to support the fight against Multiple Sclerosis, took place in Dallas. My close friend, Dwight Riskey, and I have been involved in the MS150 for eight years now, because for us it’s personal -- both Dwight and my sister have MS.
To kick off the year on Snack Chat, I blogged about my New Year’s resolution -- the power of optimism and how I hope to be more optimistic in 2009. In the post, I mentioned Dwight as my role model for optimism. Dwight has a “can do” approach to life, and in 2002 he formed a small team of Frito-Lay employees to ride in the MS150 called the Cheesy Riders -- with Chester Cheetah as our mascot. The team has grown since 2002, and last weekend more than 150 Cheesy Riders rode in the race. And, EnAble, Frito-Lay’s internal network group that supports people with different abilities, sponsored two of the rest stops along the 150-mile course.
The Cheesy Riders -- along with more than 1,500 people from corporate and private teams -- rode this year and are estimated to have raised more than $125,000 to help the MS Society and the fight to cure MS. Unfortunately, I couldn’t ride this year -- I was sidelined with kidney stones. But Dwight was out there, riding with his two sons, Keith and Stephen, sharing his optimism for life and the fight against MS with all participants.
I thought it would be fun to interview Dwight about the ride, the latest developments in finding a cure for MS and the power of being optimistic. Listen to our chat to learn more about Dwight and the Cheesy Riders: DavePhilips_DwightRiskey_Chat.
This is a great sound bite. You and Dwight should be commended. I hope you're enjoying your retirement.
My best,
Tina
