At Frito-Lay headquarters in Plano, Texas, we're topping-off our Earth Week celebration with an Eco Fair for our associates today to give them ideas and resources to live greener, both at work and at home. Throughout this week, we've hosted “green” activities centered around energy, land and water, including "Eco-Cinemas," (group viewings of episodes of the Sundance Channel TV series, “Big Ideas for a Small Planet”) hands-on workshops and guest speakers such as the author of the book, The Big Green Purse, and an organic farmers market.
Today’s Eco Fair, now in its second year, features local green vendors, music, fun activities, giveaways and informational displays, including a hybrid car like the one used by our sales associates and a Frito-Lay Sprinter truck display.
All of the Eco Fair booths support one or more of the three "R's" of environmental sustainability that we advocate at Frito-Lay: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Some of the local eco-friendly businesses and organizations we’re hosting at the Eco Fair are:
- Deja New -- a company that collects and sells gently used children's clothing; Reuse
- 1-800-Got-Junk -- a company that picks-up and recycles people's "junk;" Reduce/Recycle
- The Salvation Army -- a non-profit organization that supports people in numerous ways, including collecting unwanted clothing and donating it to people in need; Reuse
- Noritz Tankless Water Heaters-- a company that installs tankless water heaters for improved water conservation and efficiency; Reduce
- Toyota Cars of McKinney- car dealership displaying two hybrid vehicles, Prius and Insight, and providing information about the cars' benefits; Reduce
- Eco Dallas -- a company that sells environmentally friendly food service products for home and business; Recycle/Reduce
Hundreds of employees have already taken part in today's Eco Fair event, collecting tips and resources to live greener. And what makes this event particularly special is that it is truly a grassroots effort -- the result of the vision and hard work of a group of our associates who wanted to share their passion for the environment with their co-workers and open up our doors to local organizations who share Frito-Lay’s commitment to environmental sustainability. What a great way to make Earth Day a reality for our people and encourage greener habits every day of the year.
